Mon Feb 17 16:39:57 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka to Build Hundreds of Footbridges; Highway Eateries Targeted

**Mangaluru, February 17, 2025** – The Karnataka Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, Satish Jarkiholi, announced Monday that construction of 413 new footbridges in rural Udupi district will begin soon. The project, costing ₹51.77 crore, is expected to be completed within three years. ₹30 crore has already been allocated, with the remaining funds to be released in phases.

The Minister’s announcement came after a review of PWD projects in Udupi. He also highlighted the department’s efforts to improve road safety. Based on accident data from the last two years, ‘black spots’ have been identified, and funds will be prioritized for improvements at these locations.

In a move to improve traffic flow, Jarkiholi directed officials to take action against eateries operating along highways. These establishments, he stated, will be removed in phases.

The meeting was also attended by several MLAs and an MLC.
