KHAMMAM, TELANGANA – February 18, 2025 – Farmers in Khammam, Telangana, staged protests on Tuesday demanding government intervention to address the plummeting prices of chillies. The demonstrations, organized by the CPI district council and the Telangana Rythu Sangham, saw farmers demanding a minimum procurement price of ₹25,000 per quintal and the establishment of a Chilli Board in Khammam, home to the state’s second-largest chilli market. Police prevented protestors from completely blocking the Agriculture Market Yard. Leaders from both the CPI and the CPI(M)-affiliated Rythu Sangham highlighted the distress caused by the sharp price drop compared to last year, urging immediate action to protect farmers’ livelihoods.
