Tue Feb 18 09:42:52 UTC 2025: ## Bengaluru Faces Water Restrictions Amidst Growing Concerns

**Bengaluru, February 18, 2025** – The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has imposed a ban on the use of potable water for non-essential purposes in Bengaluru, citing rapid urbanization and a population exceeding 10 million. This restriction, mirroring a similar ban implemented in March 2024, aims to address increasing water demand and prevent wastage.

The ban prohibits the use of potable water for activities such as car washing, gardening, and construction. Commercial establishments, including malls, are permitted to use potable water solely for drinking purposes. Violators will face a fine of ₹5,000 per offense, with an additional daily penalty of ₹500 for continued violations.

Concerns remain regarding the quality of water supplied through Pure Water kiosks and other third-party vendors. Questions persist about the regularity of RO system maintenance and water quality checks. The BWSSB’s action highlights the growing pressure on Bengaluru’s water resources and the need for efficient water management strategies.
