Tue Feb 18 13:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Zimbabwe Triumphs Over Ireland in First ODI by 49 Runs
**Harare, Zimbabwe:** Zimbabwe secured a convincing 49-run victory over Ireland in the first One Day International (ODI) of their three-match series at Harare Sports Club on Friday. A stunning 169-run knock by Brian Bennett propelled Zimbabwe to a challenging 299/5 after winning the toss and electing to bat first.
Bennett’s masterful innings, which included a 95-run partnership with Ben Curran (28) and a 136-run stand with captain Craig Ervine (66), proved to be the cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s impressive total. Despite late wickets, Bennett remained unbeaten until the 50th over, showcasing exceptional batting prowess. Mark Adair took two wickets for Ireland.
In response, Ireland’s chase faltered early, losing Andy Balbirnie for a duck in the first over. While several Irish batsmen, including Curtis Campher (44), Harry Tector (39), Lorcan Tucker (31), Andy McBrine (32), and George Dockrell (34), showed some resistance, none could build a substantial innings. No Irish player managed to score a fifty. Blessing Muzarabani (4 wickets) and Richard Ngarava (3 wickets) were the pick of the Zimbabwean bowlers, dismantling the Irish batting lineup for a paltry 250 all out. Wesley Madhevere and Sikandar Raza also chipped in with two and one wickets respectively.
Bennett’s exceptional performance earned him the Player of the Match award. The second ODI will be played on February 16th in Harare, with Zimbabwe holding a 1-0 lead in the series. A three-match T20I series will follow the ODI matches.
