Mon Feb 17 01:00:00 UTC 2025: ## National Grid Prepares for Potential Power Outages Amidst Major Winter Storm
**ALBANY, NY (WRGB)** — As a significant winter storm blankets the Capital Region with heavy snow and ice, National Grid is assuring residents that they are prepared for potential widespread power outages. The utility company has deployed extra crews to respond quickly to any outages caused by the severe weather.
“There’s always the potential of power outages, especially with the ice accumulation we’re expecting,” stated a National Grid representative. Patrick Stella of National Grid urged customers to be proactive, advising them to charge electronic devices and consider alternative arrangements in the event of extended outages.
Stella also stressed the importance of generator safety, reminding residents to turn off their home’s main circuit breaker before operating a generator to prevent backfeeding into the power lines, which poses a serious risk to repair crews.
National Grid further cautioned residents to treat all downed power lines as live and to immediately contact 911 or National Grid if they encounter any.
