Sun Feb 16 17:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Gujarat Giants Clinch First WPL 2025 Victory with Dominant Performance

**Ahmedabad, India** – The Gujarat Giants secured their first win of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 in a convincing victory over the UP Warriorz tonight. A comprehensive performance across all facets of the game saw the Giants leapfrog several teams to claim second position on the points table.

Winning the toss and electing to field first, the Giants restricted the Warriorz to a below-par total, despite a 50-run partnership between Deepti Sharma and Uma Chetry and a late flourish. Priya Mishra starred with 3 wickets in just her second WPL game, showcasing the Giants’ impressive bowling attack.

In reply, the Giants initially lost early wickets with Mooney and Hemalatha dismissed for ducks. However, a crucial 55-run partnership between Laura Wolvaardt and Player of the Match Ashleigh Gardner steadied the innings. Gardner’s quickfire fifty laid the foundation for victory, and despite the loss of Wolvaardt and herself, Deandra Dottin and Harleen Deol finished the job with an impressive display of power hitting.

Dottin, in particular, was devastating, smashing a six with brute force as the Giants cruised to victory with a few overs to spare. Dropped catches and sloppy fielding by the Warriorz further hampered their chances.

Gujarat Giants captain Ashleigh Gardner expressed her delight, praising her team’s performance and highlighting the contributions of both the bowlers and the batters. She also credited the impactful bowling of Priya Mishra. Dottin spoke about her confidence in chasing down the target and her own execution against the Warriorz.

UP Warriorz captain Deepti Sharma admitted that their batting unit was found wanting and that the target set was achievable. She acknowledged their bowling performance despite the dew but pointed out execution errors as areas for improvement.

The victory marks a significant turnaround for the Gujarat Giants, who have now shown their ability to successfully chase down targets in the tournament.
