Vadodara, India – Delhi Capitals pulled off a thrilling two-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in the second match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 on Saturday. Chasing a challenging 165-run target, Delhi secured the win on the very last ball of the match at the Kotanbi Stadium.

Delhi’s innings got off to a fiery start thanks to opener Shafali Verma’s quick-fire 43 runs off just 18 balls. However, a collapse saw them lose four wickets for 16 runs, swinging the momentum firmly in Mumbai’s favour. Mumbai’s bowlers tightened the screws, and Alice Capsey (16), Annabel Sutherland (13), and Sarah Bryce (21) all failed to make significant contributions.

With 21 runs needed off the final 12 balls and four wickets remaining, the situation seemed bleak for Delhi. However, Radha Yadav smashed a six, and captain Nikiti Prasad, who recently led India to victory in the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup 2025, added a boundary. Though Prasad was dismissed in the final over, Arundhati Reddy and Yadav managed to scamper two runs off the last ball, sealing a dramatic victory for Delhi.

Earlier, Mumbai, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, managed 164 runs in 19.1 overs. Their start was shaky, losing two early wickets in the powerplay, thanks to Shikha Pandey’s impressive bowling (2 for 14). However, a 73-run partnership between Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur revived their innings. Sciver-Brunt played a magnificent unbeaten 80 (13 fours), while Kaur contributed a rapid 42 (4 fours, 3 sixes), achieving the milestone of 8000 T20 runs in the process. Annabel Sutherland was Mumbai’s most successful bowler with 3 wickets for 34 runs.

The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams showcasing impressive moments of brilliance and nerve-wracking collapses. Delhi’s last-ball win marked a memorable start to their WPL campaign.
