**DETROIT, MI (February 15, 2025)** – A significant winter storm is expected to hit the region this weekend, bringing significantly more snow than the 1-3 inches that fell Saturday morning. The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories for the area.
Snow accumulation is projected to be 4-8 inches in areas under a Winter Storm Warning, and 3-6 inches (on top of Saturday’s snowfall) in areas under a Winter Weather Advisory. Total snowfall from late Friday through late Sunday is expected to range from 5-9 inches, with the heaviest accumulations anticipated along and north of I-96.
Strong wind gusts of 30-35 mph are also forecast for Sunday afternoon and evening, leading to blowing and drifting snow. The snow is expected to taper off Sunday evening, with lingering flurries possible into Monday morning.
Following the storm, an arctic blast will plunge temperatures into the teens early next week, with wind chills potentially dropping well below zero Monday and Tuesday nights. Daytime wind chills on Monday may also remain below zero. The forecast includes cloudy skies for Monday and Tuesday.
