Sat Feb 15 18:36:01 UTC 2025: ## Defamation Case Against Samastha Leaders Settled
**Malappuram, Kerala – February 16, 2025** – A defamation case against prominent leaders of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, a prominent Islamic organization in Kerala, has been settled out of court. The case, filed by Sayed Hasan Thangal against Hasan Faizy and 14 others, stemmed from a 2012 article published in a Samastha souvenir.
The article, written by Hasan Faizy, alleged that Thangal’s father, Syed Jalaluddin Attakoya Thangal, and Sayed Fazal Pookoya Thangal were followers of the Shamsiyya Thareeqat, based on a reportedly false fatwa from the Jamath Himayath Shariathul Islamiyya (JHSI). The Samastha leadership had previously deemed JHSI unfit to issue religious verdicts.
The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Malappuram acquitted all 15 accused after they tendered an unconditional apology and withdrew the article. The settlement includes an apology to Attakoya Thangal, Pookoya Thangal, and their families. The accused included several high-ranking Samastha leaders. The case concludes a long-standing dispute within the organization.
