Sun Feb 16 00:18:47 UTC 2025: ## Stampede at New Delhi Railway Station Leaves 15 Dead, 10 Injured

**New Delhi, India** – A stampede at New Delhi Railway Station late last night resulted in at least 15 deaths and 10 injuries, according to officials. The incident, reported around 9:55 PM, caused a chaotic scene as large crowds gathered at the station. Initial reports suggested a stampede, however, Northern Railways later stated that the situation was a result of an unexpectedly large number of passengers traveling to Prayagraj on two planned special trains.

Emergency responders, including the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Delhi Police, and fire services, quickly arrived on the scene. The Director General of Railway Protection Force (RPF) also visited the station. The injured were transported to area hospitals, and the situation has since been brought under control.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the disorder and resulting casualties. While the railway administration asserts that the situation was due to an unexpectedly high volume of passengers travelling on special trains, the conflicting reports highlight the need for thorough investigation into safety measures and crowd management practices at the station, particularly given the high volume of pilgrims expected for the Kumbh Mela. The incident has sparked criticism of both the central and Uttar Pradesh state governments concerning the lack of adequate arrangements for pilgrims.
