Sat Feb 15 10:25:39 UTC 2025: ## Son of Former CJI Makes Rare Supreme Court Appearance in High-Profile YouTuber Case

**New Delhi** – Abhinav Chandrachud, son of former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, made a notable appearance in the Supreme Court on Friday, representing YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia (“BeerBiceps”) in a case stemming from controversial remarks made on a YouTube show. This marks Chandrachud’s first Supreme Court appearance in over eight years and six months.

The case involves Allahbadia’s participation in comedian Samay Raina’s now-deleted show, “India’s Got Latent,” where his comments sparked widespread outrage and police investigations in Mumbai and Assam. Mumbai Police had summoned Allahbadia for questioning on Saturday following his failure to appear on Thursday and Friday, when officers found his residence locked. The Assam Police are also involved, seeking to question Allahbadia and other YouTubers featured in the controversial episode.

Chandrachud, a Bombay High Court lawyer with an impressive academic background including degrees from Stanford and Harvard Law Schools, has authored several books on law and free speech. His father, in a past anecdote, revealed that he had previously invited both his sons to appear before the Supreme Court, but they declined citing professional integrity concerns.

The Supreme Court hearing on Friday before Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna’s bench did not set a fixed date for further proceedings. The case highlights the intersection of online content, free speech, and legal action in India.
