**Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, February 16, 2025** – Authorities in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, are on high alert due to a significant increase in vehicle traffic on the border with Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, where the Maha Kumbh Mela is currently underway. Officials reported approximately 1,000 vehicles traveling towards Prayagraj and nearly 800 returning every hour at the Chakghat border on Sunday. This surge in traffic is attributed to the weekend and the large number of devotees attending the religious festival.
While the situation hasn’t reached a complete standstill, the increased volume of vehicles heading towards and returning from Prayagraj has caused congestion on National Highway 30. The influx of vehicles is exacerbated by the fact that the fair area and Prayagraj city itself are designated no-vehicle zones.
Holding areas and help centers have been established in Rewa and neighboring districts (Maihar, Katni, and Satna) to manage the flow of people and vehicles. Although vehicles are not currently being stopped at designated checkpoints, authorities are closely monitoring the situation. This increase in traffic follows similar congestion experienced earlier this month on a 250km stretch leading to the Mela. The Maha Kumbh Mela began on January 13th and is scheduled to conclude on February 26th.
