**Mumbai, India** – Laxman Utekar’s historical action drama, “Chhaava,” starring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, has stormed the box office, achieving a record-breaking opening weekend. The film, which released on Valentine’s Day, raked in over ₹60 crore net in India on its opening day alone, surpassing ₹50 crore worldwide. This marks the biggest opening for a Hindi historical film and the highest opening day for any Valentine’s Day release, exceeding even “Gully Boy’s” previous record.
According to early estimates, “Chhaava” continued its triumphant run, collecting ₹36.5 crore net on Saturday, bringing its two-day total to a staggering ₹67.5 crore net. The film boasted a 44.18% occupancy rate for its Hindi version. Furthermore, “Chhaava” has secured the title of the biggest opening film of 2025, surpassing Akshay Kumar’s “Sky Force,” which opened to ₹15.30 crore last month.
Rashmika Mandanna, who plays Maharani Yesubai in the film, shared her excitement on social media, expressing surprise and gratitude at the opportunity to portray such a significant historical figure. She described her character as “fierce, powerful, graceful, a true queen,” highlighting the purity and respect of the love story between the Maharani and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj (played by Vicky Kaushal).
Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, “Chhaava” also features Akshay Khanna as Aurangzeb and Diana Penty as Zinat-un-Nissa Begum, with music composed by AR Rahman. The film’s phenomenal success signals a strong start to the year for Bollywood and promises a potentially blockbuster run.
