**Mumbai, February 16, 2025** – Actor Raghu Ram, a former judge on the now-deleted YouTube show “India’s Got Latent,” expressed regret over jokes that caused offense, following widespread outrage over controversial remarks made by influencer Ranveer Allahbadia (“BeerBiceps”) on the show. While stating he doesn’t regret his participation, Ram clarified in an official statement that he wished some jokes had been omitted.
Ram, who appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber Department as part of an ongoing investigation into the show, acknowledged that the sensibilities of a paying audience differ from a broader YouTube audience. He emphasized that while he might have made different choices regarding the show’s content, ultimately the decision rested with the creators, Samay Raina and the production team. He also defended freedom of speech, stating that “freedom of speech is meaningless without the freedom to offend,” while expressing apology for any unintentional hurt caused.
The controversy centers around Allahbadia’s question posed to a contestant: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” This question, along with other content on the show featuring creators Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija (“The Rebel Kid”), sparked a massive backlash, leading to Allahbadia issuing an apology.
The Mumbai Police have questioned several individuals, including Mukhija, Chanchlani, Allahbadia’s manager, and the show’s video editor, following a complaint by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader. At least 50 people have been summoned for statements. Raina, the show’s host, has also been summoned but has requested an extension due to his current location in the US. Meanwhile, attempts by Mumbai and Assam police to question Allahbadia at his Mumbai residence were unsuccessful as they found his flat locked. Allahbadia has been separately summoned by both police departments. No charges have yet been filed in either case.
