Sun Feb 16 03:11:45 UTC 2025: **Delhi Railway Station Stampede Leaves 15 Dead**
NEW DELHI, February 15, 2025 – A stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday evening resulted in the death of at least 15 people and numerous injuries. The incident occurred on platforms 14 and 15, reportedly due to overcrowding caused by passengers traveling to Prayagraj for the Kumbh Mela.
Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes, with people falling, being trampled, and even getting caught under the trains. One witness, speaking to ABP News, described the situation as “horrific,” stating that people were falling under the trains and getting injured. Another passenger, who had a ticket for the 12583 train to Prayagraj, reported arriving at the station well in advance but being unable to board due to the immense crowd and subsequent stampede.
Initial reports suggest the stampede resulted from the cancellation of two trains heading to Prayagraj, leading to panic and a surge of passengers attempting to board remaining services. While railway authorities initially denied a stampede, sources confirmed the incident after receiving reports around 9:55 PM. Four fire engines were dispatched to the scene. Delhi Police confirmed the stampede occurred on Platform 14, while a Prayagraj Express train was stationed on Platform 1.
The injured have been hospitalized, and an investigation into the cause of the stampede is underway. The incident highlights the challenges of managing large crowds at major railway stations, particularly during peak travel periods.
