**Vadodara, India –** The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opened the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season with a resounding victory, chasing down a record 202 runs against the Gujarat Giants at the Kotambi Stadium. This win not only marks RCB’s triumphant start to the tournament but also sets new benchmarks for the league.

RCB achieved the highest successful run chase in WPL history, surpassing Mumbai Indians’ previous record of 191 runs. The chase was completed in just 19 overs with six wickets remaining, thanks to stellar performances from Ellyse Perry (57 runs), Richa Ghosh (64 runs not out), and Kanika Ahuja (30 runs not out). Ghosh and Ahuja’s unbeaten 93-run partnership is the third highest for RCB in WPL history.

The match also saw a record-breaking total aggregate score of 403 runs, the highest ever in a WPL match. Sixteen sixes were hit, the second most in a single WPL match.

Gujarat Giants had earlier posted a challenging 201/5, largely due to captain Ashleigh Gardner’s impressive 79 runs off 37 balls, including eight sixes.

RCB captain Smriti Mandhana expressed her delight at the victory and praised the team’s performance, particularly Richa Ghosh’s batting. Kanika Ahuja also shared her joy, attributing her success to dedicated practice and visualization.

The match showcased exciting gameplay and established new milestones for the WPL, setting a high bar for the rest of the tournament.
