Wed Feb 12 21:30:59 UTC 2025: ## Modi to Meet Musk, Discuss Starlink’s India Entry
**New Delhi/Washington D.C.** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet Elon Musk during his upcoming visit to the United States, where the launch of Starlink satellite broadband services in India is expected to be a key topic of discussion, according to Reuters.
Two sources familiar with the plans, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the private nature of the discussions, confirmed that the Indian government anticipates the meeting will include talks on Starlink’s application for a license to operate in India. The government has reportedly supported Musk’s proposal to allocate spectrum for Starlink, rather than auctioning it. However, the application remains under review.
Addressing Indian security concerns, including data localization, is also anticipated to be part of the negotiations, with Musk reportedly willing to provide necessary assurances. This follows the recent seizure of two Starlink devices by Indian authorities, one linked to an armed conflict and another to drug smuggling, which temporarily halted Starlink’s operations in the country.
While the potential entry of Tesla into the Indian market is uncertain, increased sourcing of electric vehicle components from India is likely to be discussed.
The meeting between Modi and Musk will occur during PM Modi’s two-day US visit, which also includes a meeting with US President Donald Trump. PM Modi’s statement ahead of his trip highlighted the importance of strengthening the India-US partnership, focusing on technology, trade, defense, energy, and supply chain resilience.
