Thu Feb 13 00:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Norovirus Outbreak Sickens Over 100 on Holland America Cruise Ship
**TAMPA, FL** – A norovirus outbreak has affected over 100 passengers and crew members aboard the Holland America Line’s MS Rotterdam, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The ship, which embarked on a 12-day voyage from Port Everglades on February 2nd, has reported 107 passengers and 12 crew members ill with the highly contagious virus, also known as the stomach flu.
Holland America has responded by increasing sanitation efforts and isolating infected individuals to contain the spread. This is the latest in a series of cruise ship illnesses reported to the CDC this year; seven US-based cruises have reported outbreaks in 2025, including a recent gastrointestinal illness outbreak on Royal Caribbean’s Radiance of the Seas that affected 168 people.
Norovirus is a leading cause of vomiting and diarrhea in the US, often linked to food contamination. The CDC emphasizes that norovirus is not related to influenza.
