Tue Feb 11 20:28:46 UTC 2025: ## Vaduthala Overbridge Construction to Begin After Tender Process

**KOCHI, February 12, 2025** – Construction on the long-awaited Vaduthala overbridge in Kochi is set to begin after the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala (RBDCK) floated tenders on Tuesday. The two-lane bridge, expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion in the area, is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2026, 18 months after the contract is awarded.

The ₹48.51 crore project includes land acquisition, completed after resolving various issues and compensating 62 landowners. The RBDCK will construct 12 spans and approach roads, while the Railways will build the central span over the tracks. The design incorporates the Railways’ plans for additional tracks on the Shoranur-Ernakulam rail corridor.

Ernakulam MLA T.J. Vinod stated the bridge will benefit residents of Chittoor, Vaduthala, and Pachalam. The RBDCK will review the winning firm’s design to ensure adherence to norms. Further improvements, including widening the Edappally-Muthakunnam stretch of NH 66 and approach roads to the Pachalam overbridge, are planned to optimize traffic flow.

The State government provided ₹20.49 crore in technical sanction, while the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) funded land acquisition. The land area increased from 42.92 ares to 60.15 ares due to design changes accommodating the additional railway tracks. Interested firms have one month to submit bids.
