Wed Feb 12 15:33:43 UTC 2025: ## Coimbatore Upgrades Vellalore Dump Yard Fire Safety After Last Year’s Blaze

**COIMBATORE, INDIA (February 12, 2025)** – The Coimbatore Corporation has significantly upgraded fire prevention measures at the Vellalore dump yard following a major fire incident last April. The improvements aim to mitigate risks, particularly during the upcoming summer months.

New infrastructure includes a five-lakh-litre ground-level reservoir, a two-lakh-litre overhead tank, and a 1,000-meter water pipeline network with fire hydrants. A lagoon storing treated water from the Ukkadam Sewage Treatment Plant provides a continuous water supply for firefighting.

Security enhancements are also in place. These include a new watchtower, the closure of an entry point near the bus stand, and a monitored entrance from Chettipalayam Road. Another entrance near Rapid Action Force quarters has been secured. Twenty CCTV cameras monitor key areas, and boundary walls and fencing are planned for uncovered sections.

Firefighting resources have been boosted with twelve diesel motor pumps, four water tanker lorries, and four jetting rod vehicles, all with assigned personnel. A fire truck is stationed at the site 24/7 by the Fire and Rescue Services Department, and a dedicated team provides constant surveillance. These comprehensive upgrades aim to prevent future fires at the Vellalore dump yard.
