Tue Feb 11 07:12:01 UTC 2025: ## Bangladesh Asks Adani Power to Fully Resume Electricity Supplies
**NEW DELHI, February 11, 2025** – Bangladesh has requested Adani Power to fully reinstate electricity supplies from its 1,600-megawatt plant in Jharkhand, India, after a three-month period of reduced output. The reduction, which began October 31st, was attributed to payment delays stemming from Bangladesh’s foreign exchange shortage and a dispute over pricing.
Adani Power, which holds a 25-year contract signed in 2017, halved its supply, leading to the shutdown of one of the plant’s 800-megawatt units. While Bangladesh’s Power Development Board (BPDB) claims to be paying $85 million monthly to clear outstanding dues (estimated at $650 million by the BPDB, and $900 million by Adani), technical issues prevented the immediate resumption of full capacity on February 10th. A virtual meeting between BPDB and Adani officials is scheduled for February 11th to address remaining issues, including a pricing dispute that reportedly costs Bangladesh 55% more than the average Indian power price.
The pricing dispute centers on the calculation of power tariffs, based on a 2017 agreement referencing two indexes. Further complicating matters, a Bangladesh court has ordered an expert review of the contract, with results expected this month, potentially leading to renegotiations. Past accusations against Adani of breaching the agreement by withholding tax benefits, and a review of the contract by the Bangladeshi government, remain unresolved. These events come amidst ongoing legal challenges facing Adani Group, including a U.S. indictment on bribery charges, which the group denies.
