Wed Feb 12 17:23:59 UTC 2025: ## Congress Accuses Modi Government of Compromising National Security for Adani Group

**New Delhi, February 12, 2025** – The Indian National Congress today launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi government, accusing it of jeopardizing national security by altering land allocation rules near the India-Pakistan border to benefit the Adani Group. The allegations stem from a *Guardian* investigation which reports that the Adani Group is building the world’s largest renewable energy park just one kilometer from the border, in a previously restricted area.

The Congress alleges that the Gujarat government requested permission from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in 2023 to allow construction in this sensitive zone. Following a reported confidential meeting in Delhi, the central government reportedly changed security protocols by May 2023, enabling the Adani Group to secure the land by August.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge questioned the decision, accusing the BJP of prioritizing private interests over national security. He demanded an explanation from Prime Minister Modi and Defence Minister regarding the relaxation of border security rules. Kharge further questioned whether similar concessions were granted near borders with Bangladesh, China, Myanmar, and Nepal.

Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal echoed these concerns, highlighting the potential risks to India’s energy infrastructure and questioning the government’s disregard for military experts’ opinions. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in a separate statement, criticized what she perceived as prioritizing the interests of the Prime Minister’s “friends” above all else.

The Adani Group and the government have yet to respond to these allegations. The Congress’s accusations raise serious questions about the balance between economic development and national security near India’s international borders.
