**New York, NY** – Live with Kelly and Mark hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos shared the heartbreaking news of the death of their 17-year-old Shih Tzu, Chewie, during Wednesday’s show. An emotional Ripa fought back tears as Consuelos described the difficult decision to euthanize their dog after Chewie’s health rapidly declined. The dog had been suffering from dehydration and neurological issues, and had stopped eating days before.

Consuelos acknowledged the difficulty of the loss, stating it was “probably one of the toughest things we’ve had to do as a married couple.” Ripa, visibly distraught, apologized to viewers for her emotional display, but emphasized Chewie’s special place in their family’s hearts. The couple adopted Chewie in 2020, meeting her during a previous adoption segment on the show.
