Mon Feb 10 12:56:21 UTC 2025: ## Floodlight Failure Causes Major Delay in India-England ODI

**Cuttack, India –** A floodlight malfunction caused a nearly 35-minute delay during Sunday’s second ODI between India and England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. The incident occurred with India at 48/0 in the 6.1 overs of their 305-run chase. A generator connected to one of the stadium’s six floodlight towers failed, plunging a section of the ground into darkness.

According to an Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) official, a short circuit in the generator necessitated its replacement. Despite daily testing of the floodlights for five hours over the preceding five days, the unexpected failure disrupted the match. The official confirmed that the LED floodlights themselves, installed in 2022 as part of recent stadium upgrades, were not the primary cause of the problem.

While the OCA acknowledged the need for further renovations to the older stadium facilities, including seating improvements, they emphasized that the floodlights were a recent addition and are not a concern. Sunday’s match marked the first 50-over international at the Cuttack venue since November 2019.
