Mon Feb 10 06:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Comic Book Legend Rob Liefeld Cuts Ties with Marvel, Citing Poor Treatment of Creators

**New York, NY** – Veteran comic book artist Rob Liefeld, co-creator of Deadpool and Cable, has announced he is severing ties with Marvel after over 30 years. Liefeld cites a series of perceived slights culminating in his exclusion from the after-party following the July premiere of *Deadpool & Wolverine*, as the final straw.

In a 90-minute podcast episode and subsequent interview with *The Hollywood Reporter*, Liefeld detailed his grievances. He claims he and his family were uninvited to the after-party, and alleges that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, despite being nearby on the red carpet, ignored him. He further alleges that professional photos taken of him with the *Deadpool & Wolverine* creative team were subsequently deleted.

Liefeld’s discontent reportedly began earlier this year with Marvel’s decision to award co-creator status for Wolverine to editor Roy Thomas, a decision that upset the widow of co-creator Len Wein. In June, Liefeld emailed Marvel requesting enhanced credit for *Deadpool & Wolverine* and improved access to premieres and promotional events, emphasizing the crucial role comic book creators play in Marvel’s film successes. He claims this email was poorly received, leading to his exclusion from the premiere after-party.

While acknowledging positive aspects of his collaboration with Marvel, including a prominent in-movie tribute and a set visit, Liefeld expressed a growing sense of being unwelcome, contrasting his experience with the more collaborative environment of the *Deadpool* films under 20th Century Fox.

Liefeld leveled a significant criticism at Feige, stating that, in his experience, Feige “does not treat comic book creators well.” He contrasted this with DC Studios’ James Gunn, who he says actively engages and celebrates comic book creators. While Feige is known for publicly acknowledging creators, Liefeld believes more could be done to show appreciation.

Despite his disappointment, Liefeld remains positive, noting the success of his podcast episode detailing his experience, and looks forward to the release of his final Marvel work, *Deadpool Team-Up No. 5*, next week. He describes his decision to publicly share his “miss” as a way to give voice to his concerns about the treatment of comic book creators within the industry.
