**Chittorgarh, Rajasthan (February 9, 2025):** Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday lauded farmers for their crucial role in India’s development, asserting that their contribution is indispensable to the nation’s growth. Addressing the Akhil Mewar Region Jat Mahasabha, Mr. Dhankhar stated that a thriving agricultural sector directly correlates with the nation’s overall economic prosperity. He emphasized that farmers, possessing both political influence and economic potential, should not be reliant on external aid.
The Vice President highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting farmers, citing the existence of over 730 agricultural science centers designed to assist them. He urged farmers to actively engage with these centers and leverage available resources, including information on new technologies and government policies. Mr. Dhankhar also acknowledged the Jat reservation movement’s contribution to social justice.
Furthermore, Mr. Dhankhar encouraged young people to embrace agricultural business, emphasizing agriculture’s global significance and urging farmers to participate more actively in the trade of their products. He advocated for increased farmer participation in cooperatives and other ventures to ensure long-term economic benefits. This comes amidst a reported dip in allocations for key agriculture schemes in the Union Budget 2025, despite an economic survey indicating robust growth in the agriculture and allied sectors. The government has announced a National Mission on High Yielding Seeds as part of the budget.
