Sun Feb 09 15:04:59 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Boosts Red Gram MSP for Farmers
**Bengaluru, February 9, 2025** – The Karnataka State government has announced a ₹450 per quintal bonus for red gram (toor dal) farmers, effectively raising the minimum support price (MSP) to ₹8,000. This adds to the central government’s announced MSP of ₹7,550.
Agriculture Marketing Minister Shivanand Patil stated that the ₹140 crore required for the bonus has been approved by the Finance Department. The decision follows farmer complaints that the central MSP was insufficient. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah responded to these concerns by approving the additional payment.
Procurement of red gram has begun in twelve districts across the state, with the previous procurement price standing at ₹5,800 per quintal. Furthermore, the deadline for groundnut procurement at MSP has been extended to February 15th to accommodate registered farmers who haven’t yet sold their produce.
