Sun Feb 09 14:10:00 UTC 2025: **Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma Appears Before Andhra Pradesh Police**

Ongole, Andhra Pradesh – Film director Ram Gopal Varma appeared before Andhra Pradesh police today to answer questions regarding obscene posts and inappropriate comments he allegedly made on social media. Varma is being questioned at the Ongole Rural Police Station by CI Srikanth Babu.

The case stems from posts Varma made on X (formerly Twitter) during the previous election campaign. He allegedly made posts that denigrated the personalities of then-opposition leader and current Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Jana Sena Party president and current Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Minister Nara Lokesh. These posts were deemed to be in support of the YSR Congress Party.

A complaint was filed by M. Ramalingam, the TDP’s Mandal General Secretary of Maddipadu, leading to the police filing a case. Despite previous notices, Varma initially failed to appear, claiming he was busy with a film shoot. He later sought a quash petition in the High Court, alleging an unfair and illegal case. While the High Court granted him bail, it mandated his cooperation with the police investigation. Following renewed police summons, Varma presented himself for questioning today.

Prior to his appearance, Varma met with YSRCP leader Chevireddy Bhaskar, a fact noted by observers.
