Sun Feb 09 14:49:53 UTC 2025: ## BJP Upsets AAP in Jangpura: Sisodia Loses to Marwah by Narrow Margin
**New Delhi:** In a stunning upset, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has snatched the Jangpura constituency from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the recent Delhi elections. Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia conceded defeat to BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah by a margin of approximately 700 votes.
According to the Election Commission of India, Marwah secured 38,859 votes compared to Sisodia’s 38,184. Congress candidate Farhad Suri trailed significantly with 7,350 votes.
The victory marks a historic win for the BJP in Jangpura, a constituency previously considered a Congress stronghold and one where the BJP had never triumphed before. Marwah, a three-time former MLA for the constituency, leveraged a “local versus outsider” campaign strategy against Sisodia, who had recently shifted from Patparganj.
Analysts attribute Sisodia’s loss, in part, to dissatisfaction among residents of the numerous JJ (Jhuggi Jhopri) clusters in Jangpura. While AAP’s initiatives like free electricity and water were appreciated, ongoing issues with sewage, stagnant water, and inadequate basic amenities led many residents to vote for change, opting for the BJP. Residents interviewed expressed frustration with unfulfilled promises and persistent poor living conditions.
Marwah’s shift to the BJP in 2022 adds another layer to this surprising electoral outcome. The election results highlight a shift in voter sentiment within Jangpura, emphasizing the importance of local representation and addressing concerns beyond the provision of freebies.
