Sun Feb 09 15:49:56 UTC 2025: ## Kalyana Karnataka to Get Healthcare Overhaul
**Kalaburagi, February 9, 2025** – The Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB) announced plans for a significant upgrade to the region’s healthcare system. A new expert committee will be formed to review existing facilities and recommend comprehensive improvements, mirroring a similar committee recently established for education.
KKRDB chairman Ajay Singh stated that the committee will address shortcomings across the seven districts of Kalyana Karnataka. This initiative complements the ongoing “Arogya Avishkara” scheme and will work in conjunction with the “Akshara Avishkara” education program, overseen by an eight-member education committee led by economist Chaya Degaonkar. The education committee is expected to deliver a comprehensive report within two years.
The KKRDB’s commitment to improving education and healthcare is evidenced by its declaration of 2023-24 and 2024-25 as the “Year of Education.” This initiative includes the renovation of 6,538 schools and the introduction of LKG and UKG classes in 1,008 schools, benefiting 42,000 children. Further plans include the establishment of 200 Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) across the region, utilizing corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. Each KPS will cost ₹5 crore to build.
Significant funding has been allocated to these initiatives. The State government has provided ₹5,000 crore for KKRDB in 2024-25, with a ₹4,500-crore action plan approved for infrastructure development. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has pledged continued support with a similar allocation for 2025-26.
Furthermore, ₹440 crore is currently being utilized for upgrading healthcare infrastructure, including the construction of new primary and community health centers and the provision of new ambulances. Additional investments are planned for education and social welfare infrastructure, including the establishment of new schools and hostels. The KKRDB is also seeking to establish an engineering cell and fill vacant posts within the board.
