Sun Feb 09 16:34:17 UTC 2025: ## Ant Relocation and More: Science at the Sabha Fascinates Chennai Audience
**CHENNAI, February 9, 2025** – The eighth edition of Science at the Sabha, held this past Sunday in Chennai, captivated audiences with a diverse range of scientific talks. The event, aimed at science enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds, featured presentations on ant behavior, number theory, artificial intelligence, and disordered systems.
Dr. Sumana Annagiri, a professor at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata, presented her research on the relocation behavior of *Diacamma indicum* ants. Her team’s study revealed fascinating insights into how these ants, which typically forage independently, meticulously relocate their offspring during colony moves, overcoming environmental challenges through adaptive learning. Dr. Annagiri also highlighted the complex social structure of ant colonies, including the existence of slave ants acquired through pupae theft.
Other highlights included a lecture by U.K. Anandavardhanan from IIT-Bombay on number theory, posing a centuries-old mathematical problem to the audience; a presentation by Richa Singh from IIT-Jodhpur on the journey of artificial intelligence; and a talk by Pinaki Chaudhuri from the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc) on disordered systems.
The event also showcased a panel exhibition highlighting the research activities at IMSc in 2024. Organizers emphasized the Sunday timing to maximize accessibility for a broad audience. The event underscored the continued effort to make complex scientific concepts engaging and accessible to the public.
