**New Delhi, February 9, 2025** – Atishi, Delhi’s Chief Minister, submitted her resignation to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Sunday, following the BJP’s resounding victory in the Delhi Assembly elections. The BJP’s return to power marks an end to over 26 years out of office in the national capital.

Saxena has requested Atishi to continue in her role until a new government is formed. The news was confirmed via a tweet from the official Raj Niwas Delhi handle.

Atishi, who assumed the Chief Ministership on September 17, 2024, following Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation and subsequent arrest on money laundering charges, became the third woman to hold the post. She secured her own seat in the recent elections, winning in Kalkaji constituency. Despite the AAP’s defeat, several of their ministers, including Atishi, Gopal Rai, Mukesh Ahlawat and Imran Hussain, retained their seats.

The Lieutenant Governor officially dissolved the Delhi Legislative Assembly on February 8th. The BJP’s victory signals a significant shift in Delhi’s political landscape.
