Sun Feb 09 17:19:53 UTC 2025: ## BJP Storms Back to Power in Delhi Assembly Elections

**New Delhi:** In a stunning upset, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, winning 48 out of 70 seats and returning to power after 26 years. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which had governed the state since 2013, suffered a massive setback, reduced to just 22 seats – a loss of 40 seats.

The BJP’s impressive victory margin is reflected in its 71% strike rate, a significant increase from its performance in the 2020 elections. In contrast, AAP’s strike rate plummeted to 31%. While the BJP secured only a 3.6% higher vote share than AAP, this translated into a commanding 26-seat advantage. The Congress party failed to win a single seat for the third consecutive election, despite a slight increase in vote share.

BJP’s gains were particularly strong in West and North-West Delhi, where they increased their seat count from 1 to 16. They also secured all 10 Jat-dominated constituencies. Significantly, the BJP managed to defeat AAP in 16 out of 26 constituencies where AAP had won for three consecutive elections, including Arvind Kejriwal’s own constituency.

Increased female voter turnout is believed to have played a significant role in BJP’s victory. A record 60.92% of women cast their votes, exceeding male turnout (60.21%). This surge is attributed, in part, to BJP’s promises of financial assistance for women and pregnant mothers.

The results highlight a dramatic shift in Delhi’s political landscape, marking the end of AAP’s dominance and ushering in a new era of BJP rule. The BJP now governs 21 states and union territories in India, solidifying its position as the nation’s leading political force.
