**Washington D.C.** – Former President Donald Trump indicated Friday that he may meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy next week to discuss the ongoing war with Russia. While speaking to reporters after a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Trump did not specify whether the meeting would be in-person or virtual. He emphasized his desire to see the conflict end, calling it “a ridiculous war.”
Trump stated his intention to discuss Ukraine’s security needs, particularly concerning rare earth minerals, suggesting a potential quid pro quo for continued US support. He expressed a desire for a more balanced exchange of resources. He also reiterated his interest in speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin, describing their past relationship as positive.
The meeting with Trump was confirmed to be a possibility but not location was given. The former President made it clear he would not be traveling to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Andriy Yermak, Zelenskyy’s chief of staff, confirmed that a visit from Keith Kellogg, Trump’s special envoy to the region, is anticipated later this month. Yermak indicated that discussions would cover the battlefield situation, civilian safety, and upcoming meetings at the Munich Security Conference. Ukraine is clearly seeking continued US support amid the ongoing conflict.
