**Patna, Bihar, February 8, 2025** – A three-member committee has been formed by the Bihar Raj Bhavan to investigate alleged financial irregularities totaling ₹75 crore at Maharana Pratap College in Kaimur district. The investigation follows a Patna High Court order stemming from a complaint filed by Ajay Pratap Singh, who accused the college of embezzlement over the past 15 years.
The committee comprises two university vice-chancellors – Duniya Ram Singh (Agricultural University Sabour) and Vimalendu Shekhar Jha (BN Mandal University Madhepura) – and Indra Kumar, the financial advisor of Lalit Narayan Mishra University Darbhanga. They are mandated to submit their findings within one month. The committee will begin its investigation at the college on February 9th.
The alleged embezzlement came to light after Singh initially approached Veer Kunwar Singh University without receiving a response, prompting him to seek legal recourse. The High Court, in September 2024, deemed the allegations serious enough to warrant a full investigation.
Adding to the college’s woes, the governing body has reportedly been operating illegally for two years due to vacant chairman and secretary positions. This issue was raised in a January 7th letter to Raj Bhavan by the university, noting the lack of necessary approvals from key stakeholders. The Bihar Labour Resources Minister also highlighted the illegal functioning of the governing body in a December 18th letter to the Governor.
Maharana Pratap College, situated on 15 acres of land along the G.T. Road, boasts an estimated asset value of ₹200 crore, accumulated through land donations from Mohania residents. The committee’s findings will be crucial in determining the extent of the financial irregularities and addressing the governance issues plaguing the institution.
