**Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh:** The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a resounding victory in the Milkipur Assembly by-election, defeating the Samajwadi Party (SP) by a significant margin. BJP candidate Chandrabhanu Paswan crossed the one lakh vote mark with several rounds of counting still remaining, solidifying his lead throughout the day.
Paswan’s victory marks a significant win for the BJP, reclaiming the seat previously held by the SP. His lead over SP candidate Ajit Prasad steadily increased throughout the counting process, exceeding 30,000 votes early on and ultimately reaching a considerable margin. Paswan attributed his success to the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, expressing gratitude to the voters.
The high-stakes by-election, held in a constituency with a significant Dalit population, saw a record voter turnout of 65.35%. Both parties fielded candidates from the dominant Pasi community. The campaign was marked by intense campaigning and accusations exchanged between the BJP and SP, focusing on recent events in Ayodhya.
BJP officials celebrated the win as a sign of the SP’s waning popularity and a rejection of their approach. Conversely, SP MP Awadhesh Prasad alleged dishonesty on the part of the BJP. However, the substantial margin of victory for the BJP clearly indicates a strong preference for the ruling party within the Milkipur constituency.
