Sat Feb 08 05:18:38 UTC 2025: ## Bollywood Rom-Com “Loveyapa” Explores Social Media’s Impact on Relationships, but Falls Short
**Mumbai, February 7, 2025** – The new Hindi romantic comedy, “Loveyapa,” starring Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan, attempts to tackle the impact of social media and artificial intelligence on modern relationships. The film, directed by Advait Chandan, follows the couple as they swap phones before their wedding, uncovering secrets that test their commitment.
While the film cleverly highlights issues like online fat-shaming and deepfakes, critics have noted that its promising premise is ultimately underdeveloped. Sneha Desai’s screenplay is described as a “skit bloated into a feature film,” lacking depth and feeling more like a visual essay on the internet’s pitfalls than a compelling narrative. The film’s reliance on predictable tropes and a reliance on product placement (promoting a smartphone brand) further detract from its impact.
Despite earnest performances from Kapoor and Khan, their lack of screen presence hinders the film’s overall appeal. Supporting actors Ashutosh Rana, Grusha Kapoor, and Kiku Sharda provide the strongest performances, but are unable to save the film from its shortcomings.
“Loveyapa” is currently playing in theaters. While it may appeal to audiences seeking lighthearted entertainment, critics suggest that its superficial exploration of important themes prevents it from achieving its full potential.
