Sat Feb 08 05:40:38 UTC 2025: ## BJP Set for Landslide Victory in Delhi Assembly Elections: Early Trends
**New Delhi, February 8, 2025** – Early trends in the Delhi Assembly election counting indicate a massive victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), potentially ending the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) 10-year rule. With results from the first three hours of counting, the BJP is significantly ahead, securing a projected majority in the 70-member assembly.
While the initial half-hour saw a close contest between the BJP and AAP, the BJP soon pulled ahead. After two hours, the BJP was leading in 42 constituencies compared to AAP’s 28.
The New Delhi constituency, where Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is contesting, has witnessed a nail-biting contest between Kejriwal and BJP’s Parvesh Verma, with the lead fluctuating between the two candidates throughout the counting process. Similarly, several other seats, including Kondli, Gandhi Nagar, Timarpur, Seelampur, Sadar Bazaar, and Kasturba Nagar, show a close fight between BJP and AAP candidates, with margins as narrow as 4,000-5,000 votes. Other AAP heavyweights like Manish Sisodia and Atishi also initially trailed, although Sisodia later took the lead in Jangpura. Atishi, however, remained behind in Kalkaji.
BJP President Virendra Sachdeva attributed the party’s success to the people’s rejection of corruption and their preference for good governance. He predicted the defeat of prominent AAP leaders like Kejriwal, Sisodia, and Atishi, alleging they had betrayed the public trust.
Congress, meanwhile, appears to be facing a complete rout, with initial trends suggesting they may not win a single seat. This outcome contrasts sharply with the significant campaigning efforts undertaken by senior Congress leaders.
The initial surge of BJP’s lead, even touching 50 seats at one point, later saw a slight dip, with AAP making a comeback. However, the BJP maintained a strong lead throughout the counting. Ten seats remain exceptionally close, with vote differences less than 1,000. Celebrations have already begun at the BJP headquarters as the party appears poised for a return to power in Delhi after a 27-year gap. Reactions from various political leaders have started pouring in, reflecting the dramatic shift in the political landscape of Delhi.
