Sat Feb 08 06:04:55 UTC 2025: ## BJP Set for Stunning Comeback in Delhi, Sweeping AAP Out of Power After Decade-Long Reign

**New Delhi** – In a dramatic upset, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to reclaim power in Delhi after a 27-year absence, according to the latest vote counts. With the BJP leading in 42 of the 70 assembly seats, they are set to decisively defeat the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has governed the city for the past decade. The AAP, which secured near-sweeps in the 2015 and 2020 elections, is currently trailing with 28 seats. The Congress party is projected to win no seats for the third consecutive election.

The results mark a significant setback for the AAP, with several prominent party leaders facing tough competition. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is locked in a tight race in New Delhi, while Atishi, who recently served as acting Chief Minister, is trailing in Kalkaji. Even former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is holding only a narrow lead.

The February 5th election saw a voter turnout of 60.54%, slightly lower than in 2020. While the AAP alleged a lack of transparency in the release of voting data, the Delhi Chief Election Officer’s office subsequently published the figures.

Exit polls, while not always accurate, predicted a BJP victory with an average of 39 seats, exceeding the majority mark. While some polls suggested a closer contest, the current vote count strongly indicates a BJP landslide. The AAP’s campaign, which focused on its governance record and welfare schemes, ultimately appears to have fallen short in the face of BJP’s accusations of corruption and misgovernance. The Congress, meanwhile, failed to make a significant impact. The campaign was marked by heightened political tensions, culminating in accusations from the AAP that the BJP-led Haryana government poisoned the Yamuna river.

This stunning turnaround represents a major shift in Delhi’s political landscape, ending a decade of AAP dominance and ushering in a new era of BJP rule.
