**Ahmedabad, India** – Billionaire Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, has eschewed a lavish wedding celebration for his son, Jeet, donating a staggering ₹100 billion (approximately $12.1 billion USD) to various social causes instead. The wedding, which took place Friday at the Belvedere Club in Ahmedabad, was a simple, traditional Gujarati ceremony attended only by close family and friends. Notably absent were high-profile politicians, business leaders, and celebrities.
Adani had previously stated at the Maha Kumbh Mela in January that the wedding would be a modest affair, dismissing rumors of a celebrity-studded event. He reiterated this commitment in a tweet announcing the marriage of his son Jeet to Diva, daughter of diamond trader Jaimin Shah.
The substantial donation, announced alongside the wedding, will primarily fund large-scale infrastructure projects focused on healthcare, education, and skill development. These initiatives aim to provide affordable access to world-class hospitals, medical colleges, K-12 schools, and global skill academies across all segments of Indian society.
This philanthropic gesture aligns with Adani’s philosophy of “seva sadhana hai, seva prarthna hai aur seva parmatma hai” (service is practice, service is prayer, and service is the divine). Two days before the wedding, he launched “Mangal Seva,” a program providing ₹10 million (approximately $121,000 USD) annually to 500 newly married women with disabilities.
Jeet Adani, a director at Adani Airports and a University of Pennsylvania alumnus, met with 21 newly married women with disabilities to launch this initiative. The elder Adani expressed his pride in his son and daughter-in-law for beginning their married life with this commitment to social service.
Adani’s decision to prioritize social good over extravagant displays of wealth has been widely praised, setting a new standard for celebrating personal milestones with a community-focused approach.
