**MUMBAI, INDIA** – Online food delivery giant Zomato Ltd. announced a significant rebranding Thursday, changing its corporate name to “Eternal Limited.” The move, subject to shareholder and regulatory approval, reflects the company’s expansion beyond its core food delivery business, driven largely by its acquisition of quick-commerce platform Blinkit.
In a letter to shareholders, Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal explained the rationale behind the name change. He stated that internally, the company had already adopted “Eternal” to differentiate itself from its Zomato brand and app. With Blinkit’s integration, Goyal believes the company has reached a point where its future relies on more than just its original food delivery service.
“Eternal” will encompass four key businesses: Zomato (the food delivery app), Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure. The change will also affect the company’s stock ticker, transitioning from “ZOMATO” to “ETERNAL.”
Goyal framed the rebranding not merely as a name change but as a “mission statement,” emphasizing a commitment to sustained growth and longevity. He acknowledged the ambitious nature of the new name, stating, “True permanence isn’t built on bold claims of invincibility…It is forged in the quiet understanding that our immortality stems from our mortality.”
The announcement comes as Zomato’s stock closed down 0.95 percent at ₹229.05 on Thursday, representing a 17.16 percent decline year-to-date. The market’s reaction to the rebranding remains to be seen. The company’s website will transition from zomato.com to eternal.com upon final approval of the name change.
