**Chennai, India –** Ajith Kumar’s much-anticipated film, “Vidaamuyarchi,” opened to a decent box office performance on Thursday, despite receiving mixed reviews. The film, directed by Magizh Thirumeni, raked in over ₹22 crore (approximately $2.6 million USD) in India on its opening day, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. While this is a solid start, it falls short of the opening day collections of Ajith Kumar’s previous films, “Thunivu” (₹28.6 crore) and “Valimai” (₹31.70 crore).
The Tamil version of the action-drama achieved a 61.24% occupancy rate across over 3600 screens. The Telugu version, titled “Pattudala,” performed more modestly, with a 12.82% occupancy rate across approximately 800 screens.
“Vidaamuyarchi,” which reportedly had a ₹200 crore budget, stars Ajith Kumar alongside Arjun Sarja, Trisha Krishnan, Regina Cassandra, and Arav. One critic praised the film for its departure from typical superstar film tropes, noting Ajith Kumar’s willingness to embrace a different kind of role. However, others have noted the film falls short of previous Ajith Kumar successes such as “Mankatha” and “Viswasam”.
Ajith Kumar’s next film, the action-comedy “Good Bad Ugly,” is slated for release in April.
