**ANCHORAGE, Alaska (February 7, 2025)** – A search is underway for a missing Bering Air Caravan carrying ten people, including nine passengers and a pilot, which vanished near Nome, Alaska, on Thursday afternoon. The plane was en route from Unalakleet to Nome when it disappeared around 4 p.m. Authorities are working to pinpoint the aircraft’s last known location, hampered by near-whiteout conditions reported in the area.
The Nome Volunteer Fire Department, along with the National Guard, Coast Guard, and state troopers, are conducting a ground search, with air support limited due to poor weather. Residents have been urged not to organize independent search parties due to safety concerns.
Unalakleet, the plane’s departure point, is a small community located approximately 150 miles southeast of Nome and 395 miles northwest of Anchorage. Nome, a historic Gold Rush town situated just south of the Arctic Circle, is famously the finish line of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. The challenging weather conditions are hindering rescue efforts in this remote region of Alaska.
