Fri Feb 07 05:40:00 UTC 2025: **Stars Acquire Granlund and Ceci from Sharks in Injury-Fueled Trade**
**FRISCO, TX** – Facing a devastating injury crisis, the Dallas Stars have bolstered their lineup by acquiring forward Mikael Granlund and defenseman Cody Ceci from the San Jose Sharks. The trade, announced Saturday, cost the Stars a first-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft and a fourth-round pick in the same draft (which upgrades to a third-round pick if Dallas reaches the Stanley Cup Final).
The Stars are currently without key players Miro Heiskanen (knee), Nils Lundqvist (season-ending shoulder surgery), Tyler Seguin (injured since December), and Mason Marchment (injured, nearing return). Granlund and Ceci, both pending unrestricted free agents, were seen as ideal short-term solutions to address these absences.
Granlund, a 32-year-old veteran, brings 15 goals and 45 points in 52 games this season to Dallas’ forward lines. His versatility on the power play and penalty kill makes him a valuable asset. Ceci, a right-shot defenseman, provides a seasoned presence on the blue line, capable of handling significant minutes and bolstering the penalty kill.
“We see both players as addressing immediate needs for our team,” said Dallas GM Jim Nill. “Mikael is a proven scorer… and Cody will add a stabilizing and physical presence to our blueline.”
For the Sharks, the trade marks a continuation of their rebuilding efforts. General Manager Mike Grier acknowledged that while he might have preferred to keep the players closer to the trade deadline, the opportunity presented itself, and the return was too good to pass up. He indicated the Sharks will likely remain active before and after the upcoming NHL break.
