Thu Feb 06 19:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Blockbuster Trade Sends Jimmy Butler to Golden State Warriors

**SAN FRANCISCO/MIAMI -** In a stunning multi-team trade that sent shockwaves through the NBA, six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler is heading to the Golden State Warriors. The deal, announced Wednesday, ends weeks of turmoil surrounding Butler’s future with the Miami Heat.

The complex trade involves the Warriors sending Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schröder (who is then traded to Utah), and a protected first-round pick to Miami. In return for Schröder, Utah sends P.J. Tucker back to Miami. Lindy Waters III (Warriors) and Josh Richardson (Heat) join Detroit as part of the deal. An initial agreement to include Kyle Anderson from Toronto fell through.

Adding to the drama, Butler has declined his player option for the 2025-26 season and signed a two-year, $121 million extension with the Warriors.

The trade resolves a tense situation in Miami. Butler, unhappy with the Heat’s contract offer, received three suspensions in January for various disciplinary infractions, including missing a team flight and leaving a shootaround early. He publicly expressed his desire for a trade, leading to the Heat ultimately agreeing to the deal.

The move reunites Butler with fellow veteran stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, giving the Warriors a much-needed boost as they currently sit 11th in the Western Conference. For the Heat, the trade removes a major distraction and gives them Wiggins, a former key player in Golden State’s 2022 championship run, to bolster their roster.

Coach Steve Kerr acknowledged the impact of the trade on the Warriors, stating that while he’ll miss Wiggins, the team is excited about the addition of Butler.

The first opportunity for Butler to play against his former team will be on March 25th when the Warriors visit Miami. The trade marks Butler’s fifth team in his 14-year NBA career.
