Nagpur, India – Delhi pacer Harshit Rana has achieved a remarkable feat, becoming the first Indian cricketer to take at least three wickets in each of his debut matches across all formats. His whirlwind rise culminated in a stellar performance in his ODI debut against England on Thursday.
Rana’s international journey began with a four-wicket haul (4/48) in his Test debut against Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth. He then secured three wickets (3/33) in his T20I debut, coming on as a concussion substitute for Shivam Dube against England in Pune. His ODI debut saw him claim another three-wicket haul (3/53), helping restrict England to 248 despite a strong start by the visitors.
Despite an initial struggle, Rana bounced back in his ODI debut, taking the key wickets of Ben Duckett, Harry Brook, and Liam Livingstone in a single over. He credited his success to adapting his bowling strategy to the pitch conditions, targeting the stumps to counter the batsmen’s attempts to create room. His performance, alongside Ravindra Jadeja’s 3/26, proved instrumental in India’s successful attempt to keep England in check.
“I prepared myself for this and put in the hard yards,” Rana said, reflecting on his dream debut. “I didn’t hit the right lengths initially but got the rewards once I corrected them.”
Rana’s exceptional debut performances have cemented his place as a rising star in Indian cricket.
