**Vellore, February 6, 2025** – Four men were arrested Thursday in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, following a police raid on a clandestine spurious liquor manufacturing unit. The Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) of Gudiyatham police seized over 200 liters of illicit liquor and more than 4,000 empty bottles from a house in Melmoil village near Gudiyatham.
The suspects, identified as K. Jayaprakash (37), S. Vignesh (37), B. Vijay Prakash (42), and V. Balamurugan (56), were involved in a sophisticated operation. Jayaprakash and Vignesh allegedly purchased inexpensive liquor from Karnataka, refilled empty bottles with it, and relabeled them as imported liquor to sell at inflated prices. Vijay Prakash acted as a middleman, sourcing the cheap liquor and connecting the manufacturers with buyers, while Balamurugan printed counterfeit labels for the bottles. The group’s clientele included various parties and events in Chennai.
All four accused have been arrested and remanded to the Central Prison in Vellore. The police investigation is ongoing.
