Thu Feb 06 10:46:54 UTC 2025: ## Ajith Kumar’s “Vidaamuyarchi” Offers a Thrilling, Yet Flawed, Road Trip

**CHENNAI, INDIA –** Ajith Kumar’s latest film, “Vidaamuyarchi,” a remake of the 1997 Hollywood thriller “Breakdown,” offers a departure from the typical Kollywood action-packed fare. The film follows Arjun (Ajith Kumar) and Kayal (Trisha), a married couple residing in Baku, Azerbaijan, whose twelve-year marriage crumbles after a miscarriage and Kayal’s affair. Their subsequent divorce leads to a tense nine-hour road trip back to Kayal’s parents in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The journey takes an unexpected turn when their car breaks down, and they encounter another couple, Rakshith (Arjun Sarja) and Deepika (Regina Cassandra). Kayal mysteriously disappears, leaving Arjun to embark on a desperate search.

While praised for Ajith Kumar’s nuanced performance and the film’s stunning visuals, “Vidaamuyarchi” is not without its shortcomings. Critics point to a slow-paced first half, focusing heavily on the couple’s deteriorating relationship, lacking sufficient plot twists to keep audiences engaged. While the second half delivers action and suspense, some scenes are deemed redundant, dragging the narrative. The supporting characters, Rakshith and Deepika, also lack sufficient development.

Although Anirudh Ravichander’s background score and songs are considered underwhelming, Om Prakash’s cinematography is lauded for its impressive drone and long shots. NB Srikanth’s editing could have been tighter, and the action sequences, while present, fall short of expectations.

Despite its flaws, “Vidaamuyarchi” represents a bold step for Ajith Kumar, showcasing his range as an actor beyond typical Kollywood hero roles. The film provides a new cinematic experience for Tamil audiences, albeit one with a mixed bag of strengths and weaknesses.
