PUDUCHERRY, February 5, 2025 – The Puducherry Local Administration Department received ₹5.5 crore from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) as partial payment for successfully implementing urban reforms under AMRUT 2.0. This is part of an ₹8.4 crore incentive approved for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 fiscal periods.

The funds will support 19 projects across Pondicherry’s municipalities (Pondicherry, Ozhhukari, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam), totaling ₹150 crore in central assistance. These projects focus on improving water supply, wastewater management, and waterbody rejuvenation.

AMRUT 2.0 aims to enhance the financial sustainability and water security of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) nationwide. Key reforms include increasing recycled water usage to 20% of water demand, reducing non-revenue water to under 20%, and waterbody rejuvenation. Additional reforms involve GIS-based property mapping for improved tax collection and enhancing ULB creditworthiness.

The mission’s ultimate goal is to ensure all statutory towns are “water secure,” providing every household with a functional water tap connection. This will be achieved through water conservation, waterbody and well rejuvenation, wastewater recycling, rainwater harvesting, and active community involvement.
