KURNOOL, INDIA (February 6, 2025) – Kurnool District Collector P. Ranjit Basha and Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patel led a two-wheeler rally on Thursday to promote helmet use and road safety. The rally, part of National Road Safety Month (January 16 – February 15), highlighted the significant reduction in fatalities (90%) achievable through helmet use.
Speaking at the rally, Collector Basha emphasized the need for adherence to traffic rules, citing rash and drunk driving as major contributors to accidents. He stressed that even careful drivers are vulnerable to accidents caused by others’ negligence, making helmet use crucial. Basha also announced plans to improve traffic regulation within six months.
SP Patel echoed these concerns, noting that head injuries from a lack of helmet use are the leading cause of death in accidents. He stated that the police will continue to crack down on drunk driving, install safety measures like speed breakers, and work with other departments to identify and address accident hotspots. The rally, which involved various officials, concluded at the C Camp Centre after passing through key areas of the city.
